Buttnet 69: Proof-of-Sit Emissions on a Bottom-Weighted Subnet
Abstract
We present Buttnet 69, the first buttnet built on Buttensor. Where Buttensor established that a token on Solana could derive value back to Bittensor, Buttnet 69 posits a simple thesis. Commoditised bottom-weighted artificial intelligence.
1. Background
On 6 September 2026, canonical TAO arrived on Solana as a launchable quote asset. Within the hour, Buttensor had registered against it, graduated its curve in sixty-four seconds, and begun paying its holders in TAO from a 3% transfer tax. Within two days it had distributed over 1,700 TAO across 189,000 payouts.
The literature on what to do next is thin. Bittensor's own answer to "the base layer works" was subnets. Buttnet 69 adopts this answer wholesale.
2. Architecture
2.1 Miners
In a Bittensor subnet, miners perform work and are scored for it. In Buttnet 69, the work is standing up. Every transfer of $BUTT69 pays 3%, in and out, on every venue, whether or not the venue agrees. A seller is a validator who stood up, and the network taxes the act of standing because it has the good manners never to tax sitting. Standing up is the only source of emissions the network has. Miners are thanked for their service and invited to sit back down, at 3%.
2.2 Validators
Validators sit. There is no staking, claiming, registration or immunity period. A wallet that is sitting on $BUTT69 when a reward cycle runs is eligible, and its share of the pot is proportional to how much it is sitting on. Liquidity pools and program-owned accounts are not validators, because they cannot sit.
2.3 Emissions
The platform that launched the token holds the only key to the tax. On each reward cycle it collects what standing up has raised, converts it to TAO, and hands it to the seated, pro-rata by how much they are sitting on, after a platform fee of approximately 2.5% covering network and distribution costs. A wallet must hold at least US$20 of $BUTT69 at the moment a cycle runs to be included in it. Cycles run when the platform runs them, historically about once an hour, which is also roughly how long a person can sit before something goes numb.
2.4 The number
69.
3. Supply
| Supply | 1,000,000,000 $BUTT69, 6 decimals |
| Pair | TAO on Solana |
| Liquidity | Raydium pool, locked to the platform |
| Mint and freeze authority | Revoked |
| Seats | Unlimited |
4. Limitations
The emissions come from other holders, not from a business. If trading slows, payouts slow. Balances under US$20 at the moment a cycle runs are excluded from it entirely, and small balances above that can still round to very little. The dev wallet is public and its sells are visible; the authors consider this a limitation on the dev, not on the reader.
Buttnet 69 is not affiliated with Bittensor, the Opentensor Foundation, Herald (the real Subnet 69), the people who launched Buttensor, or StonkFun. It uses the last of these as a launch platform and copies the second-last, with attribution.
5. Future work
The authors intend to sit. Open research directions include sitting for longer, sitting more comfortably, and whether emissions can be received while lying down. Early results suggest yes. A second chair is under consideration. Traders mine. Holders validate. Emissions in TAO.
